This page includes the list of bug fixes and enhancements introduced in the Oracle VM 3.x releases.The latest Oracle VM Manager and Oracle VM Server for x86 can be downloaded from Oracle Software Delivery Cloud. Oracle VM Server for SPARC is available for download from My Oracle Support. Please review the specific download instructions here.

Oracle VM Manager

For production operations, Oracle VM Manager and Oracle VM Server must be using the same version of Oracle VM 3.2. For example, it is supported to use Oracle VM Manager 3.2.8 to manage Oracle VM Server 3.2.7 or 3.2.6, but Oracle recommends you maintain the same patch level for both Oracle VM Server and Oracle VM Manager.

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.8

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.8 build 733 has been validated in combination with Oracle VM Server 3.2.8 build 735. Oracle VM Manager 3.2.8 ISO upgrade patch update can be downloaded from My Oracle Support by searching patch ID 16410417. This patch update includes all the cumulative bug fixes that have been integrated since the Oracle VM Manager 3.2.1 release.

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Manager 3.2.8 build 733 are:

  • 17988636 - Fixes an issue which caused a Null Pointer Exception when trying to delete a template.
  • 17884218 - Fixes an issue which caused the upgrade script to exit when database connection was lost.
  • 17752503 - Fixes an issue which caused spontaneous reboots after upgrading to Oracle VM 3.2.
  • 17637228 - Fixes an issue with the network bonding mode 1 (active-backup) setting.
  • 17341391 - Fixes an issue which caused the management database backups older than one day to be deleted.
  • 17300843 - Fixes an issue which prevented a virtual machine in an OCFS2 repository to be migrated to the Unassigned VMs folder.
  • 17156967 - Fixes an issue when mounting a cloned repository.
  • 16885214 - Fixes an issue with late lock exception (OVMAPI_A019E) which caused a job to fail.

Oracle VM Manager Web Services API SDK is included in the Oracle VM Manager 3.2 Installer ISO. The following is a list of enhancements are included in Oracle VM Manager 3.2.8 Build 733:

  • 16405249 - Fixes a null pointer exception (NPE) in jobGetById().

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.7

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Manager 3.2.7 build 730 are:

  • 17622401 - Fixes an issue with uninstalling Oracle WebLogic Server during uninstalling Oracle VM Manager.
  • 17622391 - Fixes an issue where the Oracle VM Manger does not initialize after installing and starting it.
  • 17604239 - Fixes an issue where an object created on Oracle VM 3.2.6 cannot be deleted.
  • 17569025 - Fixes an "Object Not Found" exception when deleting a file system mount.
  • 17545282 - Fixes an issue where it is not possible to upgrade from Oracle VM 3.1 to 3.2 due to a JDBC connection error.
  • 17537957 - Fixes a performance issue to speed up the discovery process of a physical LUN.
  • 17530474 - Fixes an issue where the job details are missing when a job is aborted.
  • 17450902 - Improves the error message when trying to delete a VLAN object which is being created by another job at the same time.
  • 17442082 - Fixes an issue to handle properly duplicated storage initiators when deleting an Oracle VM Server.
  • 17390092 - Adds support to specify the network ID when editing a Virtual NIC via the Command Line Interface (CLI).

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.6

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.6 build 726 has been validated in combination with Oracle VM Server 3.2.6 build 729. 

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Manager 3.2.6 build 726 are:

  • 16933707 - Fixes an issue in which VLAN objects were deleted during discovery.
  • 16954392 - Fixes the failure which occurred when trying to add more than four disks on Solaris 10.
  • 16892110 - Fixes an issue where ISCSI log out fails with the error "FAILED TO DELETE NODE RECORD FOR PORTAL".
  • 17170926 - Fixes the exception when the vmcfgfile object is in lifecycle state=created.
  • 17220820 - Fixes the exception when OVM Manager is started and shows the error "FAILED TO START MODEL ENGINE - JAVA.LANG.NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION".
  • 16856022 - Fixes the exception during the Storage Connect plug-in upgrade when Oracle VM Manager cannot access the plug-in.
  • 17278578 - Fixes a performance issue to speed up job debug transcript.
  • 17306775 - Fixes the issue where jobs are missing start and end times.
  • 17307049 - Fixes the issue to make sure an intra-server network does not have any ports allocated to it before creating the network. 

Oracle VM Manager Web Services API SDK is included in the Oracle VM Manager 3.2 Installer ISO. The following is a list of enhancements/bug fixes that are included in Oracle VM Manager 3.2.6 build 726:

  • 16809498 - Added a WS-API call for bond creation.
  • 16977202 - Fixes the issue where a network cannot be modified if it has the management role assigned to it.
  • 16971436 - Fixes an issue which occurred when trying to add a bond to a network through the WS-API.

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.4

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.4 build 524 has been validated in combination with Oracle VM Server 3.2.4 build 525. 

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Manager 3.2.4 build 524 are:

  • 16433528 Fixes an issue that prevented Oracle VM Server from upgrading to a version not supported by Oracle VM Manager.
  • 16521788 Fixes an issue that with redundant "refresh storage layers" operations in the case of multiple LUNs presented to an access group.
  • 16595371 Fixes an issue with "Object Not Found" exception during parallel operations which include discovery and VM delete.
  • 16843482 Fixes Null Pointer Exception in the event of a null Storage Connect plug-in.
  • 16446383 Fixes problem importing a VM on SPARC servers.
  • 16674825 Improves Oracle VM Manager performance.

Oracle VM Manager Web Services API SDK is included in the Oracle VM Manager 3.2 Installer ISO. The following is a list of enhancements/bug fixes that are included in Oracle VM Manager 3.2.4 build 524:

  • 16316588 Improves debug information in WS-API exceptions.
  • 16809498 Adds support for bond creation in WS-API.

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.3

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.3 build 521 has been validated in combination with Oracle VM Server 3.2.3 build 521

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Manager 3.2.3 build 521 are:

  • 16501220 Displays the correct version number for Oracle VM Manager during installation or upgrade.
  • 16383475 Fixes incorrect object count for virtual machines in the Oracle VM Manager log files.
  • 16371210 Avoids the Oracle VM Manager database upgrade when upgrading from the previous Oracle VM Manager 3.2 release, thus resolves the known issue when upgrading from Oracle VM Manager 3.2.1 to 3.2.2.
  • 16364753 Prevents thread leaks when stopping multiple virtual machines sequentially or in parallel when using the Oracle VM Manager CLI.
  • 16357443 Prevents a Null Pointer Exception when removing a LUN from an Access Group.
  • 16346446 Fixes a rare condition when the starting command of a virtual machine did not get executed.

Oracle VM Manager Web Services API SDK is included in Oracle VM Manager 3.2 Installer ISO. The following is a list of enhancements/bug fixes that included in Oracle VM Manager 3.2.3 build 521.

  • 16368612 Prevents a lock exception when creating concurrently multiple virtual machines from a template.
  • 16362971 Corrects the returned object type for the Server Discovery web service.
  • 16358438 Ensures that the "job done" state is not set to true when the job is still running.
  • 16323514 Renames the existing "Manager" web services to "Management".
  • 16264290 Fixes the issue where the max memory limit / memory limit setting was not behaving correctly.
  • 16171404 Adds the list of IP Addresses to the Virtual NIC object.

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.2

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.2 build 520 has been validated in combination with Oracle VM Server 3.2.2 build 520

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Manager 3.2.2 build 520 are:

  • 16298678 Fixes a security vulnerability exposed by Oracle VM Manager upgrade process.
  • 16287721 Fixes the "Object Not Found" issue when a virtual disk file has been manually removed (or renamed).
  • 16273324 Fixes a memory leak issue after exiting the Oracle VM Manager Command Line Interface (CLI) when running the exit.sh script.
  • 16211641 Adds certain event classes required by some Oracle software.
  • 16179954 Fixes the issue that the guest additions (VM-API) send keys and values are logged in events.
  • 16167030 Adds support in CLI for returning the "Page83 ID" when listing physical disks.

Oracle VM Manager Web Services API SDK is included in Oracle VM Manager 3.2 Installer ISO. The following is a list of enhancements included in the Oracle VM Manager 3.2.2 patch update.

  • 16230099 Adds an Assembly descriptor to the Assembly object in Web Services.
  • 16223704 Adds support for ServerController and Server start/stop/kill and restart in Web Services.

Oracle VM Manager 3.2.1

Oracle VM Manager 3.0.3 or 3.1.1 can be upgraded to the Oracle VM Manager 3.2.x patch update. Unzip the patch file on the server running Oracle VM Manager and execute the runUpgrader.sh script.

After performing the upgrade from Oracle VM Manager 3.0.3 or 3.1.1 to the latest Oracle VM Manager patch update, users must run the following commands on the Oracle VM Manager server. It is to allow https connection with Microsoft Internet Explorer  7, 8, or 9 after applying the recent security update.

Oracle VM Server for x86

Oracle VM Server 3.2.8

Oracle VM Server 3.2.8 build 735 has been validated with Oracle VM Manager 3.2.8 build 733. Oracle VM Server 3.2.8 patch update can be downloaded from My Oracle Support, patch ID 16410428. This patch update is a complete Oracle VM Server 3.2.8 installer ISO, and includes all the cumulative bug fixes that have been integrated since the Oracle VM Server 3.2.1 release.

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Server 3.2.8 build 735 are:

  • 18135757 - Fixes an issue that virtual machine network connection was lost while copying of big files over NFS.
  • 18120147 - Fixes an issue that bond0 failed to be brought up in some cases.
  • 17962304 - Fixes an issue with virtual machines which crashed instead of rebooted.
  • 17938433 - Fixes an issue where a MAC address may be changed when a virtual machine is restarted or migrated.
  • 17876407 - Fixes an issue with 10GBE bnx2x driver when changing MTU size.
  • 17723143 - Adds support for OPENSCAP 0.9.8.
  • 17694066 - Updates the product value in multipath by adding Fujitsu "ETERNUS_DXM" to product of /etc/multipath.conf.
  • 17313566 - Fixes an issue that may cause virtual machine to crash in the specific configuration of certain Oracle engineered system.

We also provide a separate Oracle VM Server 3.2.8 ISO built with the UEK2-400 kernel (kernel-uek-2.6.39-400.214.3.el5uek), which can be downloaded from My Oracle Support by searching patch ID 18263107.

Oracle VM Server 3.2.7

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Server 3.2.7 build 732 are:

  • 17723396 - Fixes a Xen security issue (XSA-73) where the locks page_alloc_lock and grant_table.lock are not always taken in the same order.
  • 17722562 - Improves the time needed to scrub the free memory during installation or boot time for Oracle's Sun Server X2.
  • 17669909 - Fixes an issue where weak cipher connections are allowed for secure live migration.
  • 17669887 - Fixes an issue where the Oracle VM Agent allows weak cipher connections.
  • 17596605 - Updates the UEK2 kernel to prevent Dom0 from hanging after resizing the OCFS2 filesystem.
  • 17596453 - Fixes an issue where xend fails to start after upgrading Oracle VM 3.2.4 to a newer version.
  • 17556144 - Upgrades the Ext2 Filesystem Utilities (e2fsprogs package) to the latest version.
  • 17504060 - Fix which includes Xen tools (QEMU) patches to make hot-plug for vCPU work correctly.
  • 17497235 - Fixes an issue where the (deprecated) modprob.conf file was still used for bonding configuration.
  • 17264239 - Updates the ethtool package to support the -f option.
  • 17263502 - Fixes an issue where the OneCommand Manager Enterprise application from Emulex cannot be installed correctly.
  • 16515326 - Fixes a backwards compatibility issue between Oracle VM Server 3.1.1 and Oracle VM Manager 3.2.

Oracle VM Server 3.2.6

Oracle VM Server 3.2.6 build 729 has been validated with Oracle VM Manager 3.2.6 build 726. 

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Server 3.2.6 build 729 are:

  • Updated Xen package to 4.1.3-25.el5.53.
  • Updated Dom0 kernel to 2.6.39-300.32.4.el5uek.
  • 17249282 - Fixes an issue where OVMWATCH reports the wrong UUID on live migration.
  • 16906289 - Fixes an issue where the Oracle VM Server installer detects a network interface incorrectly.
  • 16986472 - Fixes an issue where HVM virtual machines in an OVF assembly have a limit of four virtual disks.

Oracle VM Server 3.2.4

Oracle VM Server 3.2.4 build 525 has been validated with Oracle VM Manager 3.2.4 build 524.

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Server 3.2.4 build 525 are:

  • 16299906 Adding LDAP packages to Dom0.
  • 16565324 Adding ebtables packages to Dom0.
  • 16676410 Fixes an issue with mounting EMC Power Path volumes.
  • 16848489 Fixes an issue where the network interface does not come up after reboot in LACP mode.
  • 16686562 Fixes an issue that PV virtual machine cannot connect to network when using 31 vifs.
  • 16876184 Fixes an issue that failover failed on bond using ixgbe driver with jumbo frames enabled.
  • 16690498 CVE-2013-1964 / XSA-50 - Fixes and issue with grant table hypercall acquire/release imbalance.
  • 16756876 Disables the bridge multicast_snooping to avoid potential packet drop from the guests.

Oracle VM Server 3.2.3

Oracle VM Server 3.2.3 build 521 has been validated with Oracle VM Manager 3.2.3 build 521.

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Server 3.2.3-521 are:

  • 16627108 Resolves a security vulnerability of potential use of freed memory in event channel operations described in Xen Security Advisory - CVE-2013-1920 / XSA-47.
  • 16627078 Resolves several access permission issues with IRQs for unprivileged guests described Xen Security Advisory - CVE-2013-1919 / XSA-46.
  • 16627030 Resolves Xen PV DoS vulnerability with SYSENTER described in Xen Security Advisory - CVE-2013-1917 / XSA-44.

Oracle VM Server 3.2.2

Oracle VM Server 3.2.2 build 520 has been validated with Oracle VM Manager 3.2.2 build 520.

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Server 3.2.2-520 are:

  • 16231401 Fixes an upgrade issue to return the correct UUID when discovering an Oracle VM Server with an SMBIOS newer than version 2.6.
  • 16196266 Sets a maximum of 20 vCPUs for Dom0 on large systems to provide better out-of-the-box10Gb Ethernet performance.
  • 16000702 Adds IPMI lanplus interface support.

Upgrade Oracle VM Servers

It is highly recommended to update Oracle VM Server 3.2 with the latest patch update. Please review the Oracle VM User's Guide http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35328_01/E35332/html/vmusg-servers-manage.html#vmusg-servers-yum for specific instructions on how to use a Yum repository to perform the Oracle VM Server update.

Windows PV Drivers

The Oracle VM Paravirtual Drivers for Microsoft Windows provide a performance boost for network and disk I/O on Microsoft Window guests running in a virtual environment on Oracle VM. 
Oracle VM Paravirtual Drivers for Microsoft Windows Release 3.2.2 is signed by Microsoft. New features in this release are:
Additional support for the following new guest operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1
  • Microsoft Windows 8

Windows XP is now dropped from the supported guest OS list.

Oracle VM Agent for SPARC

Oracle VM Agent for SPARC 3.2.6

Oracle VM Agent for SPARC 3.2.6 build 729 has been validated with Oracle VM Manager 3.2.6 build 726. The patch update can be downloaded from My Oracle Support, patch ID 16694949. This patch update includes all the accumulative bug fixes that have been integrated since Oracle VM Agent for SPARC 3.2.1 release.

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Agent 3.2.6-729 are:

  • 17074446 - Fixes an issue where a SPARC virtual machine may fail to access its ZFS pool after restart from Oracle VM Manager.

Oracle VM Agent for SPARC 3.2.3

Oracle VM Agent for SPARC 3.2.3 build 521 has been validated with Oracle VM Manager 3.2.3 build 521.

Notable bugs fixed in Oracle VM Agent 3.2.3-521 are:

  • 16384197 Fixes the issue where duplicated warning message is displayed when logging into the control domain.
  • 16384183 Adds package dependency on NTP to ensure it is present.
  • 16384147 Fixes the issue that SPARC M5 servers are not correctly identified.
  • 16384037 Provides the update script to perform Oracle VM Agent upgrade.

Install or Upgrade Oracle VM Agent for SPARC

Once the agent is downloaded, unpack the archive and run the install script if this is a new install.

This installs all required packages (including dependencies), and provides password during the installation; Then discover the server from Oracle VM Manager.

To upgrade from the existing Oracle VM Agent for SPARC install, simply run the update script.
