Have been struggling with getting SQLDeveloper.app v3.2 upto 4.0 to work since the release of MacOSX 10.9.x aka: Mavericks and 10.10.x aka Yosemite until today.

None of the readme, release notes nor contacting technical support have addressed the issue.  Tried Toad for Mac, but didn't feel right.

So today I'm sharing the steps I did to get SQL Developer 4.1 Early... on Mac OSX 10.10.2 working.

Need to down the latest JDK (jdk-8u31-macosx-x64) and install
verify via Control Panel that its see v1.8...

Now download sqldeveloper-4.1.0.17.29-macosx.app.zip & expand, then move it to Applications, but do NOT launch it yet
Go to Applications > SQLDeveloper.app, show package content > Contents > MacOS & edit sqldeveloper.sh

locate the text 1.7 and change to 1.8
    save and exit

Now go ahead and launch SQLDeveloper.app

    Thank.
    Stacy
